We want to further expand our activities in The Hague and integrate the campus more firmly within the city. Together with the LUMC, we will continue on this development and on strengthening our interdisciplinary focus on prevention, health and care.

This Thursday saw the launch of PLNT The Hague, an entrepreneurial hub where Campus The Hague students can learn all about entrepreneurship. They will have the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial skills, build a network and begin an innovative startup.

Leiden University, together with the Open University and Universities of the Netherlands, will take up residence in the Spui building at Grote Marktstraat 48-50/Spui 3 in downtown The Hague from 2025. The partners signed the leases on 7 November.

The LDE universities work together with the Municipality of The Hague in The Hague Southwest Thesis Project. On 28 October students from the first group to graduate presented their advice to policymakers from the municipality. Lilian van Leeuwen, one of the students, wrote her thesis about the perceived safety of the residents of the Moerwijk neighbourhood in The Hague.

Health Campus The Hague: working together for better health and care

Better health for all the residents of The Hague region. This is the mission of Health Campus The Hague – formerly LUMC Campus The Hague. Eight partners – the LUMC, Leiden University, the municipality of The Hague and five healthcare institutions (see box) – are collaborating intensively in healthcare education and research. Their aim is to reduce health disparities among residents.

Leiden University signs Southwest Pact in The Hague

On average, the residents of The Hague Southwest (Zuidwest) are poorer, have more health problems and a lower level of education than the residents of other districts in The Hague. With the Southwest Pact, the municipality, the state, residents, entrepreneurs and professional parties are joining forces to redevelop Southwest over the next 20 years. Leiden University is a signatory of the Pact.

Campus The Hague Board appointed

The governance structure of Campus The Hague (CDH) will be altered. This has been decided in consultation with the University Council, which issued a positive recommendation about this.Ton Liefaard and Jan Crijns will become the joint holders of the CDH Education portfolio, and Rolf Oosterloo will become the new holder of the CDH Operations portfolio. They will hold these positions alongside their current ones, and together with CDH Chair Erwin Muller will comprise the CDH Board as of 1 September. The CDH Board will be responsible for implementation, coordination and monitoring. Suzy Sirks-Bong has been appointed the new Executive Director of CDH as of 1 July. In recent years, she has held the Operational Management portfolio at the Faculty of Humanities.

The Sustainable City Lab The Hague will be a hub that connects organisations in The Hague that work on sustainability with the research and teaching at Leiden University. ‘We’re going to set to work on complex sustainability challenges in our own backyard,’ says project leader Eefje Cuppen.
