Heritage Quest project wins European Heritage Europa Nostra Award

Heritage Quest is a large-scale citizen science project in the field of archaeology that allows anyone to contribute to scientific research. It is the first large-scale archaeological citizen science project in The Netherlands and one of the few of its kind in the world. As part of the Cultural Heritage Summit 2022 in Prague, the winning projects were presented during a festive ceremony. Heritage Quest won an award in the Research category.

One of the largest roofs at Leiden University, that of the Snellius building, has recently been equipped with 590 solar panels and 57,000 sedum plants, making it the largest combined roof in the Benelux. The roof was officially opened on Monday 10 October by Annetje Ottow and Martijn Ridderbos, President and Vice Chairman of the Executive Board, and Fleur Spijker, an alderman from the Municipality of Leiden.

Better health for all the residents of The Hague region. This is the mission of Health Campus The Hague – formerly LUMC Campus The Hague. Eight partners – the LUMC, Leiden University, the municipality of The Hague and five healthcare institutions (see box) – are collaborating intensively in healthcare education and research. Their aim is to reduce health disparities among residents.

Leiden University ends participation in EUniWell pilot

Leiden University has decided to withdraw from EUniWell as of January 2023. The importance of synergy in our international portfolio and research and teaching agendas recently led us to accept the invitation to join Una Europa, an alliance of 11 leading European research universities. We have explored the possibility of combining our roles in both alliances, but have come to the conclusion that – given the limited resources – there is insufficient synergy for this.
